Test Prep Tutoring

I do not currently offer test-prep tutoring for any standardized test or admission test of any kind. Academic tutoring is what I love!

From my previous years of test-prep tutoring experience, here’s what I recommend for your self-studying or your work with another private tutor who knows how to teach both content and strategy.

SAT/ACT

If your section score is below 600, you need content review.

If your section score is consistently above 600 but you’re having trouble breaking 700, you need to dial in your tactics and get ruthlessly meticulous about eliminating silly mistakes—if your private tutor doesn’t prioritize that, find a different tutor. Don’t burn out by just doing more and more practice problems aimlessly.

These two books are the gold standard for SAT/ACT reading and grammar score improvement. (Click to go to the product.)

If you click either of those links and make any purchase, I’ll earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Thanks for your support!

GRE

If your Quantitative score is below 150, you need content review. Khan Academy and Princeton Review or Kaplan test prep books are sufficient.

If your Quant score is consistently above 150 but you’re having trouble breaking 160, you need to dial in your tactics and get ruthlessly meticulous about eliminating silly mistakes—if your private tutor doesn’t prioritize that, find a different tutor. Don’t burn out by just doing more and more practice problems aimlessly. Rather, you’d benefit from improvement of strategy, review of uncommon/in-depth content, and increased familiarity with more unconventional problem types. Avoid Princeton Review or Kaplan at this level; their material isn’t challenging enough. Instead, use Magoosh and Manhattan Prep materials; if you’re aiming for a perfect score, you could even try GMAT math problems.
